The American Legion Post 11 in Laurel will host Freedom Fest on Saturday. Proceeds will go to support local veterans. The American Legion is located at 1108 N. 9th Ave. in Laurel.

The all-day fundraiser will include the third-annual gumbo cook-off. Fires will be lighted at 7 a.m. and judging will begin at noon. Doors open to the public at 10 a.m. and cost is $10 for a bracelet, which allows samples of contestants’ gumbo.

The event will include jumps and slides for the kids, concessions, door prizes and a raffle for a 28-inch Blackstone grill. The winning ticket will be drawn at 9 p.m. and the winner does not have to be present at the time of the drawing.

The band Champagne Jam will perform from 7-11 p.m. ($5 cover charge) and barbecue will be available for purchase during the concert.
